The purpose of this position is to preside as a judge over both juvenile and adult cases in the Grand Prairie Municipal Court as well as to serve as a magistrate for the purpose of reviewing proposed probable cause warrants and related duties at the City jail. While serving as an employee of the City, the Associate Judge will also be bound by the ethical canons set out in the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct. The Associate Judge will maintain a high degree of competence with regard to the law impacting his/her function as a municipal judge and magistrate and will attend such continuing education as is required by the Rules of Judicial Education set forth by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school as required by state law; Minimum seven (7) years of active law practice to include two (2) years of municipal court experience is required, valid Texas Driver’s License required; licensed attorney in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Multilingual skills preferred, but not required; Spanish or Vietnamese highly preferred. This position requires the ability to work outside of typical business hours routinely, including weekends, holidays, and evenings due to magistrate duties at the jail and to be available 24/7, 365 days per year to review and sign time-sensitive warrants.
